DEVOTIONAL SONG AND MEDITATION RETREAT
If you’ve struggled with basic sitting meditation, and want a different tool to help settle your mind and open your heart, chanting might be a great resource! We will dive deeply into the practice of devotional song and chant, using English and Sanskrit songs, mantras, kirtans from various traditions, musically supported by harmonium, guitar, and percussion. The range of group chanting experience can stretch from tender to joyfully buoyant, and everything in between. We will ride the waves! We will also spend time in silent meditation.
There will be simple yoga and breathing practices to open and relax the body, and the creation of a group shrine or altar with our personal objects of devotion, either brought or collected/made from the natural world around Unicamp.
No meditation or singing experience is required.
Shara Claire began training in the art of devotional song and meditation in 1997, at Yasodhara Ashram, in the mountains of British Columbia. After training as an Expressive Arts Therapist, she continued to develop her meditation and devotional music practices, living in other ashrams and spiritual centres from 2004 through 2010.
She is a certified meditation instructor with the Canada Yoga Alliance. She now lives in east Toronto with her partner, two stepchildren, and Sam the cat.
